ABOUT AL

Park grew up in Albuquerque and received his Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University in 1992.  While at Purdue, he received the Henry G. Waltmann Award for Outstanding Student in Historical Studies.  Upon graduation, Park enrolled in The George Washington University National Law Center.  After earning his Juris Doctor in 1995, he served as Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable John Edwards Conway, Chief United States District Judge for the District of New Mexico.


Upon completion of his clerkship, Park entered private practice focusing on litigation.  He has handled a wide variety of cases including product liability, civil rights, personal injury, employment discrimination, wrongful death and insurance coverage cases.  He is licensed to practice law in New Mexico, the Federal District Court of New Mexico, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the District of Columbia.


During his tenure in the Legislature, Park has earned the reputation as an active and thoughtful legislator advocating on behalf of consumer rights, public safety and comprehensive education reform.  He has been the prime sponsor of numerous pieces of landmark legislation, including reforming the payday lending industry, creating a used car lemon law, increasing penalties for sexual predators, passing a statewide ban on smoking in indoor workplaces, and sponsoring the Teach New Mexico Initiative.


Park is married to Jessica Perez.  They have two daughters.
